Anglo Zimele Small Business Start Up Fund is currently wholly owned by Anglo Zimele Empowerment Initiative Limited, Anglo American’s enterprise development fund.

The Small Business Start Up Fund was established in October 2007 and since its inception, has approved 47 loan transactions to the value of R 13 million. These companies employ 552 people and have a collective turnover of R 72 million. The Fund believes strongly in ensuring the long-term economic viability of these enterprises through skills transfer and guidance, and meets the needs of loan funded companies by providing strategic operational, financial, and business expertise on a day-to-day basis.

The Anglo Zimele Small Business Start Up Fund’s model is supported by Anglo Zimele management services which provides hands-on support in aspects such as corporate governance and management; legal, accounting, company secretarial and public relations; safety, health and environment.

Through the assistance of the Small Business Start Up Fund, Anglo American business units are in the process of establishing 11 Small Business Hubs in the areas where these operations have a footprint.
